The first cost estimate is back, and it ain't pretty

It's been a long, four weeks waiting for the cost estimates to come back to ensure the proposed alterations are within budget, so unfortunately not much has been happening in regards to progress.

We've only received one back so far and it's W-A-Y over. I'm guessing the builder has plenty of work on at the moment, because it appears he is clearly not interested in this job. His quote to build the addition and renovate the existing cottage works out to be roughly $4,000 per square metre. A little excessive don't you think?

I'm not too concerned with these figures however. My architect told me that there was a $300K price difference on another job, ranging from the cheapest to the most expensive building quote. How can there be such a vast difference in pricing? Just goes to prove that it's definitely worth shopping around!

Let's hope the other quotes are a bit more reasonable.

  1. I thought it was supposed to be around half that price! Yep keep going with the quotes, apparently things are just starting to pick up but lots of builders have been looking for work. melx
