I've narrowed down my preferences for dining chairs, but I still need to find a dining table. I am leaning towards a solid timber table that can withstand the daily abuse that four boys will no doubt dish out. Perhaps if it's made from reclaimed timber which will already have it's fair share of imperfections, any further marks will hopefully blend in (or add character as they say.)
I haven't found any locally-made tables that I like (that's not to say they're not out there) so at the moment these are the ones I've been eying off.
The following three tables are handmade in Sydney by local firm Original Finish and are my favourites:
This one by Jardan is available in several sizes and also comes with a marble top option:
Mark Tuckey also makes these ones that I quite like too:
Ideally I'd like to get a table that can comfortably accommodate 8 people. Our dining room is relatively small, so the idea is to push the table hard up against the wall underneath the window (as in the image below).
On another wall be a set of french doors leading out onto the front verandah, so when the room is being used we can throw the doors open and utilise the entire area which will increase the sense of space.
The last image look great Caroline.. perfect for you four boys! Wish I could find similar, we need the same feature for a small restaurant.
